Moving Patients on CIC

Moving Patients Between Rooms without Losing Data: Version 5 GE Central Station

Following these directions, users are able to move patients between beds within a care unit using the central station monitor.

If your patient is being monitored via the bedside hardwired monitor, follow all of the following steps.

If your patient is being monitored via a wireless telemetry transmitter, skip steps 1-4 and begin following the instructions at step 5.

  1. In the patient overview window, select the bed where the patient you wish to move currently resides.

  2. In the single patient viewer window, select the Admit menu.

  3. Select any tele transmitter from the ECG From dropdown menu.
Note: You do not need to connect the patient to the transmitter unless you want to use it to monitor.  The dropdown menu will only list the transmitters not in use, so it is arbitrary which transmitter you choose unless you are using it to monitor.

  4. After selecting a transmitter, hit Save.

  5. In the Single patient viewer window, select the Admit menu.

  6. In the bed dropdown menu, select the bed you wish to move the patient to.
Note: When selecting the bed to move the patient to, the bed name will have an asterisk next to it.  This simply means that it is seen as a telemetry bed.
Note: You can only move a patient to a discharged bed.

  7. After selecting the bed (w/an asterisk) where the patient is moving, click on the Move button in the bottom of the screen.

  8. The central station will ask you if you are sure you want to move the patient.  Select Yes.

Now the patient should be admitted to the new bed and the old bed will show as discharged on the central station.  There will still be an asterisk next to the new bed name.

  9. In the patient overview window, select the new bed to open the single patient viewer.

  10. In the single patient viewer window, select the Admit menu.

  11. In the bed dropdown menu, select the bed name where the patient is located without the asterisk.
Note: This will allow you to use the bed as a wireless or hardwired bed.  You never want to keep the bed name listed with the asterisk.

  12. After selecting the bed (w/out asterisk), click on the Move button in the bottom of the screen.

  13. The central station will ask you if you are sure you want to move the patient.  Select Yes.

  14. If you want to keep your patient monitored wirelessly on the transmitter, then your patient move is complete.  If you would like to use the bedside hardwired monitor, please continue to step 14.

  15. In the Admit menu, choose Monitor in the ECG from dropdown menu and hit Save.
